Five laptop computers owned by the University of Tennessee at Martin have gone missing, and one of them contains students' Social Security numbers, campus police said.
One computer contained 25 students' personal and academic information, and the affected students have been informed by mail, according to a university news release.
All the affected students were still on campus.
The UTM Office of Information Technology Services is helping campus police in their investigation, the release said.
Police said all five computers went missing from the Elam Center, the university's multi-purpose sports building.
The potential information leak comes just weeks after a nonprofit found private information posted online for 240 applicants to a high school program run by the university.
Martin Crime Stoppers is offering up to $500 for information about the missing computers. People with information can call 731-587-2611.
