Voting heavy across Tennessee
Issue date: 11/4/08 Section: Campus News
Voters turned out in record numbers across Tennessee on Tuesday but the success of early voting prevented long lines at most precincts through most of the day.
State election coordinator Brook Thompson said he expected up to 2.9 million Tennessee voters to cast their ballots in the presidential election, easily exceeding the record 2.45 million who voted in 2004.
Thompson said voting was reported to have gone smoothly across the state, and having had 1.5 million voters cast their ballots early was a big help. The state has about 4 million registered voters.
